10 Things I Learned About CV

Here are 10 things I learned as a first-year camp counselor at Camp Voyageur.

1. All of the counselors are really cool.

Camp counselors are a special breed. Enough said!

2. Use Dr. Bronner’s or don’t shower at all.

It’s ecofriendly and smells delicious! What’s not to love?

3. CV takes ecological restoration very seriously.

Whatever you do, don’t say the b-word in front of John… BALSAMS!

4. If you are a balsam Mikey or Alex WILL cut you down.

Fun fact: Cutting down balsams literally makes veteran counselor Mikey Meves’s appetite increase ten-fold.

5. ALWAYS ONE-sHOT PORTAGES. WHY WOULD YOU DO IT ANY OTHER WAY?

Well, it’s worth trying, at least!

6. CV HAS A LOT OF HISTORY BEHIND IT.

Each building has a story – and several names, which sure makes it hard to navigate the grounds when you’re new!

7. THE 70 IS EITHER NAMED AFTER ITS HORSEPOWER OR ITS PERCENTAGE OF SUCCESSFUL STARTS.

We had to get towed more than once.

8. CV has a five-star kitchen.

Deb, Evelyn, and Jan make me fat and happy in the best way possible!

9. MIKEY MEVES IS A MEAN GRILL COOK.

By mean, I mean AMAZING!

10. CORONA CV IS APPARENTLY VERY DIFFERENT FROM REGULAR CV.

Fewer kids means more maintenance projects! I am officially a jack of all trades!
