Winter Trips and Camping
At Camp Voyageur the fun doesn't stop when the snow starts falling.
During the winter we are blessed with tons of snow and lots of sun. The ice on the lakes is usually more than two feet thick which means that even swamps and other wetlands that are inaccessible during the summer become perfect locations for skiing and camping. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and dog sledding are popular activities - there is really a lot of activity in the northwoods during the winter.
If you've never been to the northland during the winter you probably wouldn't recognize some of the places that you would find familiar in the summertime. Even heavily traveled lakes and portages take on a new look when blanketed under a coat of snow that is more than three feet thick.
Throughout the winter, Camp Voyageur offers trips with a variety of durations. So give us a call and head up to Ely for an adventure unlike any other - winter camping in the wilderness.
If you plan your trip during the first week of February you will be in Ely for the Voyageur Winter Fest. For ten days town will be bustling with activities including snow sculpture, wild game feeds, skiing and snowshoeing clinics, dog sledding and a host of other events. This is the winter counterpart of the well-known Blueberry Arts Festival.
